After graduation, he plans to join the U.S. Air Force and learn Japanese.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Clara Dodson<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Clara Dodson, of Rosedale, Maryland, is a member of the Dean\u2019s List, president of the Sustainability Club and participates in Burlesque Club. He is an art major focusing on photography. While at SMCM, he had interned as a videographer at a Michelin star restaurant and has assisted as a teaching assistant in photography classes. After graduation, he plans to become a freelance photographer and videographer.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Lizzie Zoz<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Lizzie Zoz is from Silver Spring, Maryland. Zoz is current president of Bottom County Music Festival, historian for Dance Club and an Orientation Leader. After graduation, Zoz plans to work in graphic design.<\/p>\n<div class=\"a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_default_style\" data-a2a-url=\"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/academics\/awards-convocation\" data-a2a-title=\"Congratulations to our Seahawks during Awards Convocation at Çï¿ûÊÓÆµ - The National Public Honors College\">\n<h3>William Thomas Rowe Endowed Scholarship in Art<\/h3>\n<p><em>Established in 2008 by the Rowe family to benefit art majors. Selection is based on portfolios of work and essays.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Eleanor Woodbury<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Eleanor Woodbury of Severna Park, Maryland, is an art major and museum studies minor. She is a gallery assistant at the Boyden Gallery and a collections and registration Intern at the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum. She is finalizing her post-graduate plans and intends to continue her art practices.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Charlotte Thomas<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Presented by Jane Rowe &amp; Nancie Rowe Lumpkins<br \/>\nCharlotte Thomas is from Bethesda, Maryland, and has a double major in art and biology. Thomas is a member of the Beta Beta Beta honor society and the varsity women\u2019s soccer team as well as a member of the Soccer Club. A double major in Asian studies and English, LaRocco studied in Taiwan on a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship in 2024. She is the president of SMCM Chapter of Beta Beta Beta biology honor society. Koontz will attend Pennsylvania State University to pursue a PhD in plant biology.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Hannah Lowry<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Hannah Lowry, of Ellicott City, Maryland, is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Beta Beta honor societies. Lowry is a tutor and research assistant for the Department of Biology and plans to pursue a career in clinical research.<\/p>\n<h3>Biology Department Award for Academic Distinction and Service<\/h3>\n<p><em>Established for academic achievement and service to the biology program.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Ezra Tapponnier<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Ezra Tapponnier of Leonardtown, Maryland, is a biology major. He is a member of Beta Beta Beta honor society. He plans to take a gap year before starting his PhD.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Aurora Lewis<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Aurora Lewis is from Magnolia, Delaware. On campus, Lewis is a greenhouse technician, a directed research student and assistant. After graduation, Lewis plans to pursue a career in genomics and bio-informatics, or in forensic genetics.<\/p>\n<h3>Outstanding Achievement in Principles of Biology<\/h3>\n<p><em>Established in 2003 to recognize a student who has demonstrated academic excellence and achievement in \u201cPrinciples of Biology.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Cesia Perez<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Cesia Perez is from Riverdale, Maryland. A biochemistry major, she is a member of SMACS\/BOSS and the Pre-Health Club. Perez plans to attend medical school and become a pediatrician.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Abby Chappell<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Abby Chappell is from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. A laboratory research assistant for Dr. Elka Porter, Chappell will study abroad at James Cook University in Australia next semester. Post-graduation, Chappell intends to pursue a career in natural resources management.<\/p>\n<h3>The Mendel Award in Biology for Outstanding Achievement in the Second<br \/>\nYear<\/h3>\n<p><em>Established in 2003 to recognize a student who has demonstrated academic excellence and achievement in genetics and also ecology and evolution.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Caroline McDonald<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Caroline McDonald from Frederick, Maryland, is a double major in biology and biochemistry. She has done directed research with Assistant Professor Pruett. She is a member of the varsity field hockey team and has worked as a veterinary assistant. After graduation, McDonald plans to attend veterinary school.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Brenden Lane<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Brenden Lane is from Frederick, Maryland. A biochemistry and biology double major, Lane conducted directed research with Dr. Shanen Sherrer and was a teaching assistant for Principles of Biology. Goldsmith Award for Excellence in Chemistry<\/h3>\n<p><em>The Robert H. Goldsmith Award recognizes distinguished service to the department and academic achievement in chemistry.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Mordecai Leavitt<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Mordecai Leavitt is from Greenbelt, Maryland. A double major of chemistry and art, he is the president of SMACS and the senior chair of Zero Degrees. He has been the chemistry and biochemistry department lab management intern, a chemistry subject tutor and an organic chemistry lab assistant. After graduation, Leavitt will return for a second summer at Brookhaven National Lab conducting catalysis research and apply to PhD programs in chemistry.<\/p>\n<div class=\"a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_default_style\" data-a2a-url=\"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/academics\/awards-convocation\" data-a2a-title=\"Congratulations to our Seahawks during Awards Convocation at Çï¿ûÊÓÆµ - The National Public Honors College\">\n<h4><strong>Claire Thompson<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Claire Thompson is from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. A chemistry lab assistant and tutor, Thompson is a member of the varsity rowing team and the Fishing Club. This summer, Thompson will work at the Bigelow Laboratory in Boothbay, Maine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Award for Excellence in Biochemistry<\/h3>\n<p><em>Awarded by the department to recognize<br \/>\ndistinguished service to the department and<br \/>\nacademic achievement in biochemistry.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Cole Vonderheid<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Cole Vonderheid is from Pringle, Pennsylvania. He is a biochemistry major. He serves as vice president of SMACS\/BOSS, the ASBMB chapter on campus. Vonderheid aspires to become a cancer researcher with a medicinal chemistry background.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Ugonna Ejekwu<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Ugonna Ejekwu is from Beltsville, Maryland and is a member of Beta Beta Beta honor society and the Dean\u2019s List. Ejekwu is president of the SGA and a member of the Shared Governance Committee, Music Club, SMAC\/BOSS and the African Students Association. After graduation, Martin begins a career in financial advising with Chesapeake Investment Planning.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Louise Victoria Lusby Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>In honor of Louise Victoria Lusby who passed away in 2014. She graduated St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland in 2005 as the valedictorian and was a model student and a friend to many. Presented to a current student of high academic achievement in economics.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Nadia Velasco<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Nadia Velasco is from Capitol Heights, Maryland. A double major in economics and public policy with a minor in sociology, Velasco is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, Omicron Delta Epsilon and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies. She is a DeSousa-Brent Scholar, a Landers Scholar and SAGE president. She is also a member of the women&#8217;s varsity rowing team and the Dance Club. Velasco plans to volunteer with the Peace Corps, then pursue graduate studies in economic development.<\/p>\n<div class=\"a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_default_style\" data-a2a-url=\"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/academics\/awards-convocation\" data-a2a-title=\"Congratulations to our Seahawks during Awards Convocation at Çï¿ûÊÓÆµ - The National Public Honors College\">\n<h4><strong>Madeleine Phillips<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Madeleine Phillips is from Ellicott City, Maryland. A member of Omicron Delta Epsilon honor society, Phillips is editor-in-chief of The Point News and Student Ambassador for the Department of Economics and Business Administration &amp; Management. After graduation, Phillips plans to pursue a career in sustainable development. She would like to serve abroad through a Fulbright or the Peace Corps.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3><strong>Deak Reynolds Economics Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Established in 2003 by Deak Reynolds, to be given annually to an outstanding junior or senior majoring in economics.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Coen Joshua Dewalt<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Coen Joshua Dewalt of Catonsville, Maryland, is a double major in economics and business administration and management. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Epsilon honor societies. Dewalt is the economics program student ambassador and a two-time captain of the men\u2019s rugby team. After graduation, he plans to work in the Baltimore area.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Haley Gambrell<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Haley Gambrell is from Frederick Maryland. A member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Epsilon honor societies and a DeSousa Brent Scholar, Gambrell is also an orientation coordinator, a student ambassador coordinator for Admission, a classroom assistant for math and a member of SAGE and OS3. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. After graduation, Ghezai plans to complete the Master of Arts in Teaching program and become an English teacher.<\/p>\n<h3>Margaret Eagle Dixon Award in Literature<\/h3>\n<p><em>Established in 1997 in memory of her mother, a 1904 graduate, by Adele Tomey \u201939.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Claire Elizabeth Weedon<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Claire Elizabeth Weedon, of Trappe, Maryland, is a member of Sigma Tau Delta honor society and the Dance Club. She will attend graduate school at American University.<\/p>\n<div class=\"a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_default_style\" data-a2a-url=\"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/academics\/awards-convocation\" data-a2a-title=\"Congratulations to our Seahawks during Awards Convocation at Çï¿ûÊÓÆµ - The National Public Honors College\">\n<h4><strong>Ashlyn Bonner<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Ashlyn Bonner, of Ellicott City, Maryland, is a double major in English and psychology. A member of the Dean\u2019s List and three-time captain of the varsity women\u2019s soccer team, Bonner is also a student ambassador for the Admission Welcome Center. After graduation, Bonner will work as a marketing associate for the Fire Safety Research Institute.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Allison Glaser<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Allison Glaser is from Parkville, Maryland. An English major with minors in philosophy and WGSX, Glaser is co-editor-in-chief of AVATAR and a senior tutor at the Writing and Speaking Center, as well as an assistant to the Chesapeake Writers\u2019 Conference and intern at the St. Mary\u2019s Arts Council. After graduation, Glaser plans to pursue a career in a library or nonprofit organization.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Michael S. Glaser Writing Award<\/h3>\n<p><em>Given annually to a gifted and dedicated writer who has worked to hone his or her craft during his or her time at St. Mary\u2019s College and shows exceptional promise for future achievement.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Emma Cecil<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Emma Cecil is from High Point, North Carolina. She is an English major with a creative writing minor. She is a part of Sigma Tau Delta and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies and works as a resident assistant on campus. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in editing and publishing.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Laura Howe<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div class=\"a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_default_style\" data-a2a-url=\"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/academics\/awards-convocation\" data-a2a-title=\"Congratulations to our Seahawks during Awards Convocation at Çï¿ûÊÓÆµ - The National Public Honors College\">\n<p>Laura Howe is from Kensington, Maryland. A member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Delta Phi honor societies, Howe is also an employee at the Daily Grind and a member of Dance Club and Burlesque Club. After graduation, Howe plans to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing and start a career in teaching.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Edward T. Lewis Poetry Award<\/h3>\n<p><em>Established in 1993 in honor of the 10-year anniversary of Edward T. Lewis\u2019 presidency at St. Mary\u2019s College to recognize promising young poets.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Erin Rhodes<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Erin Rhodes is from Silver Spring, Maryland. A double major in English and biology with a minor in creative writing, Rhodes is a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society and also a member of the women&#8217;s rowing team. She intends to pursue a career in science writing or science journalism.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Dina Jones<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Dina Jones is from Waldorf, Maryland. A member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Tau Delta honor societies, Jones earned an Elite 20 Award for indoor and outdoor track and field. After graduation, Oates begins a master\u2019s program in counseling psychology at Towson University.<\/p>\n<h3>Jaie M. A psychology major and an education minor, she works as a patient care technician and postpartum doula. A member of Psi Chi honor society, Divjak conducted directed research as part of completing a major in psychology.
