Requests should include a complete description of\u00a0the proposed activity and must be signed by the individual or a representative of the organization. This policy applies to\u00a0students and non-students who desire to sell merchandise, goods, services, food, and\/or drinks at any location on the St.\u00a0Mary\u2019s campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definitions<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commercial activity is any sale or offer of sale to secure a profit for an individual or group. Such activities generally\u00a0will be prohibited unless necessary to St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland purposes. Persons seeking approval of a\u00a0commercial activity on the grounds that it is necessary to St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland purposes will be required to\u00a0furnish complete details of the proposed activity, including the extent of their financial interest to the Office of Student Activities. Student organizations can sponsor commercial sales on campus under the following guidelines:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A vendor who wants to sell items on campus must complete a vendor application prior to the requested date.\u00a0 The cost is $25 per day plus 10% of sales over the first $250. Payment must be made the day of the event in cash or\u00a0by check made payable to SMCM.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students wishing to engage in commercial services in their residence for personal care products, multi-level marketing sales, events, etc. are prohibited.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-commercial activity is defined as any sale or offer of sale to secure funds for the benefit of any non-profit\u00a0organization, or any non-profit sale. The Dean of Students or designee must approve activities for\u00a0the benefit of student organizations or charitable organizations and\/or if the activity is proposed to take place in a\u00a0residence (e.g., a canned food drive.) Standards for considering a request may include one or more of the following:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students offering a service (for example, MLM sales, bus ticket sales, or other sales activities) to members of\u00a0the St. Mary\u2019s\u00a0community in order to provide funds for their own education must obtain permission from Dean of Students<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0or designee.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The activity must not be disruptive and must be conducted only in areas and at times approved by the Dean of Students. Room-to-room solicitation in any building on campus is prohibited.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The activity must be conducted in an acceptable and business-like manner. All vendors are required to set up in the first-floor lobby of the Campus Center or on the first-floor patio of the Campus Center.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Materials sold must not be harmful, and perishable goods must be handled properly.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the materials sold require equipment for preparation or dispensing, such equipment must be approved at the\u00a0time permission for the activity is granted.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sale of merchandise to raise money for political or partisan purposes is prohibited.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Failure to obtain authorization or to comply with these regulations may result in disciplinary action against the student or\u00a0student organization. Other persons or non-student organizations in violation of the terms of this policy will be dealt with as\u00a0trespassers. This policy does not apply to the sale or distribution of newspapers.
