St. Mary’s College of Maryland establishes the following policy regarding smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes and vape pens, and use of tobacco products. TheÌýGovernor’s Executive Order (01.01.1992.20) establishes guidelines upon which the St. Mary’s policy is based.Ìý

- Buildings and VehiclesÌý
- Smoking or carrying any lighted tobacco product is prohibited in all state buildings and facilities.Ìý
- Smoking is prohibited in all state vehicles.Ìý
- Smoking is prohibited in all areas of all residential facilities, including (but not limited to), Residence Halls, Suites, Apartments, and Townhouses.ÌýÌý
EnforcementÌý
- ResponsibilityÌý
- All employees and students share in the responsibility for adhering to and enforcing this policyÌýand have the responsibility for bringing it to the attention of visitors.Ìý
- Conflict resolutionÌý
- The Office of Human Resources is responsible for resolving conflicts and investigating claims ofÌýemployees. The student conduct officer is responsible for resolving conflicts and investigatingÌýclaims of students.Ìý
- Disciplinary proceduresÌý
- For an employee found in noncompliance, the following shall result:Ìý
- For the first offense: be directed to Human Resources for counseling on theÌýprovisions of the Executive Order (verbal warning).Ìý
- For the second offense: be given a written reprimand.Ìý
- For a third offense: receive a suspension.Ìý
- For a fourth or subsequent offense: may result in termination of employment.Ìý
- For a student found in noncompliance, an incident report may be forwarded to theÌýstudent conduct officer for adjudication.Ìý
- For an employee found in noncompliance, the following shall result:Ìý
